Where is blob brush

To change your blob brush tool to pressure sensitive, double-click on your blob brush tool to open up your blob brush options box. Scroll down to size and change the size from fixed to pressure.

Then change the variation to 17 and press ok. Luckily, you can change the fidelity of your blob brush tool in your blob brush settings to make your lines smoother. Double click on your blob brush tool and change your fidelity to match the fidelity in the picture.

Hey Lili, can you take a screen shot of the Default Brush Options menu with fixed and random showing and send it to me so I can get a better sense of what is going on?

Did you figure this one out? I am having the same problem… Pressure option is greyed out in the blob brush menu. Hey Zach, what kind of tool are you using to draw? I hope this helps. I have never had this problem before so I had to look a few things up. Apparently this is a common problem, but one thing that has worked for other people is making sure you have installed all of the drivers for your specific tablet.

Is there a way to edit the blob brush lines together as if they are one line and not a shape? I can see the great advantages of using the blob brush from your tips, but this is the problem I have that puts me off from using it.

You can use it to create all kinds of characters as well such as a Z shape. You can also then add width profiles to the blob brush. Depending on the selection set for the blob brush tool, you can merge with other paths already created circles etc.

You can control the merging by only merging with selected check set to on. You can also use the subtract to add perhaps add spots and dots to the artwork. You can also add them to symbols in editing mode and can find a lot of different symbols on this site for use with the tool.

One main issue with the tool whether accurate or smooth , a lot of points can be created unless you add a very basic stroke. You can always use the various tools such as simply etc to remove some of them personally the best tool is Astute Graphics' VectorScribe plugin. Sadly, the randomization and variation is not with the blob brush single operation but only on re-applying the brush so if you apply one stroke with a variation set to 20pt and size 10pt you will get a 30pt or perhaps 15pt etc but not within the actual path itself.

The randomization actually works nicely with adding them as single spots you don't have to add the tool as a long single stroke. Not nearly as convenient! The blob brush has all the same panel options as the regular brush. By double clicking on a brush preset, you can change the angle, roundness and size. This can be good for mimicking various brush styles, like calligraphy, or even more useful for edging in the corner of a shape. The following are examples of how the blob brush might have been used in a real life design.

The tree illustration featured in this logo has a free and flowing style. The leaves and branches are loosely suggested with gestural forms and overlap a green layer. Together, these shapes give a sense of lushness without too much detail. In this case, the form could begin at the center of the tree, and expanded outwards with many strokes until the leafy area is filled in a way that holds a similar stylistic sensitivity to the rest of the design.

Alternatively, this illustration contains many odd dots, shapes and blobs—all which could be created with the blob brush tool. We can also see potential in this piece for additive and subtractive brush strokes. In other words, there may have been a process of building up and chipping away at shapes until the the final piece was realized.

Lastly, this design features many casual lines and shapes. The soft color that fills in the hair, the robe and the shadows of the body are all loosely defined shapes with a freehand style.

I'm going to use the right bracket and left bracket to change the size of that, and I'm going to make sure that I've got a color chosen. Orange is my favorite color, so we'll start with that. And because it's a brush, it automatical So I'm going to come in here and I'm going to just draw, I'm going to make it a little bit smaller, and I'm going to draw. And this is like finger painting. This is why this is along my style so I think, "Oh, I need to draw this picture.

So when I let go, it's no longer a stroke. It's now a filled object. And actually let me set one setting so you can actually visually see that. So after I draw, like this, it keeps it selecting.

You notice it has all those points. It's as if I used the pen tool and drew every little single point and all the segments that are there. But I was able to do it with this Blob Brush. But here's where I think it gets really cool. If I decided, "Oh, I actually wanted that to be connected. And I liked that to actually be filled in, or I want this whole thing to also be orange.

I could, but I don't have to. Because it's the Blob Brush, and I'm in the same color, if I don't change the color, I can say, "Oh, actually, let's come back here and just draw that in a little bit more. Maybe I need to come here and we do this. I'm even going to fill all this in. When I let it go, boom, it created a whole another shape for me. It just filled that in. So it doesn't see it as two separate lines that I now have to maintain.

So I can sit here and just fill things in and it's just like self-healing. Oops, I went out to far.
