I think the default look has the cape removed in order to make him look more like Altair.

Or something like that. Originally posted by tz: For changing notoriety, it might be tied tot he crest on his shirt, it's changing all the time, lol. The Auditore, Medici, and Venetian capes also returned, with the addition of the Borgia cape, though the standard cape was the only one which could be dyed.

By , Ezio had once again changed his outward appearance, having a set of robes designed for traveling to Masyaf. Unlike his previous outfits, they were largely gray in color, rather than the usual Assassin white, and had a gray-white fur padding on the left shoulder and under both bracers, as opposed to the leather his previous outfits had.

Ezio chose to wear a dark blue scarf around his neck to protect himself from the extreme weather. After being ambushed by a large group of Byzantine Templars upon arriving at Masyaf, Ezio removed his cape before combating his attackers, and he did not replace it afterwards.

The robes also bore the Constantinople Assassin insignia and a small, adorned buckle in a shape of diamond, which connected the belts which crossed over his chest. There was also an upside-down Assassin insignia on the tip of the hood. Additionally, small patterns appear to be imprinted on the grey fabric of the robes. The robes could once again be dyed with any color that a tailor had to offer, with color combinations designed to fit the Turkish setting.

New armor sets were also available at the blacksmith shops, being the Azap, Mamluk and Sepahi sets. As Ezio chose not to carry a cape with him, he would not be able to dye it in Constantinople, as opposed to the tailors in the Italian cities before.

The robes feature the amputated ring finger, and a short blade sheath on the back, despite Ezio sheathing all the daggers at his waist. Worn only during Sequence 9. So in my personal headcanon the Templar saw that his old mentor was dying and even though they are opposite sides decided to somewhat comfort his old mentor at his time of passing and give him his respects. The only reason Altair died at that age was because he had to fight off an army of templars when they attack Masyaf. Out of his bravery, he told everybody to leave the city, including his son, so that he could fight them off.

But he still kills off many of them. But sadly, he bleeds to death. The noose was severed before it could strangle him, and Achilles pulled Connor to his feet under the gallows and handed him his tomahawk. In Revelations, Ezio became less favorable in my eyes and Altair was the better character.
